Abu Simbel Day Tour from Cairo
Start Time: 3:00 AM
Your journey begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Cairo by an Emo Tours expert guide. You will then be transferred to Cairo Airport to catch your flight to Aswan, departing at 5:00 AM and arriving at 6:30 AM. Upon arrival in Aswan, you will be greeted by our guide, who will hold a sign with your name for easy identification. From here, you will be transferred to Abu Simbel, which is approximately a 3-hour drive from Aswan, in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.
Visit to Abu Simbel:
Abu Simbel is one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring monuments, located in Nubia near Egypt’s southern border. The Great Temple of Abu Simbel was carved into the living rock by King Ramesses II (also known as Ramesses the Great) around 1264 BC during the Nineteenth Dynasty. The temple is famous for its four colossal statues of Ramesses II that dominate the façade. One of the statues collapsed due to an ancient earthquake, and its fragments can still be seen on the ground in front of the temple. Inside the temple, colossal standing statues of the king line the main hall, leading to the sanctuary, where four deities are seated: Amun Ra, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified version of Ramesses II.
The temple was constructed with such precision that on two specific days of the year—February 22nd and October 22nd—the sun’s rays enter the temple, cross the main hall, and illuminate the innermost statues, a remarkable phenomenon.
In addition to the Great Temple, you will visit the Small Temple, located to the north. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari, Ramesses II’s Great Royal Wife. The façade of the Small Temple features colossal statues of Queen Nefertari, which are the same size as those of her husband, a rare display of such grandeur for a queen. Both temples were relocated in 1968 to avoid being submerged by the waters of Lake Nasser, following the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Thanks to an international effort led by UNESCO, the temples were successfully moved to higher ground and are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list, inscribed in 1979.
After your visit to the temples, you will be transferred back to **Aswan Airport** for your return flight to Cairo. Upon your arrival in Cairo, you will be met by our local representative and transferred back to your hotel.
